After the Doctor had written his first letter by Swallow Mail to the Cats'-Meat-Man he began to think of all the other people to whom he had neglected to write for years and years. And very soon every spare moment he had was filled in writing to friends and acquaintances everywhere.
"'Who is your master?' I said. 'Anybody would think you were going to paint the portrait yourself.'
As they went forward the jungle around them seemed to grow thicker and thicker all the time. But there was always this clear alley-way along the river bed. And though the stream's course did much winding and twisting,推荐🐐 the going was good.
"Yes."
"A ship!" cried the Doctor.
No one went near her and the swallows had her to themselves. And they agreed afterward that they found her the best place for nesting they had ever used.
"'Why,推荐📝 it's Jip!' he cried. 'Good dog. Come here. You're the very fellow I want.'
"But why?" asked the Doctor.
"The baby spoonbills want them,东野🚹" said John Dolittle. "Why should I take them away from them?"
"But I was not so happy. I had noticed a peculiar thing: none of the invalids ever seemed to get well and go away. And finally I spoke of this to Phipps.
"'I want you to come over here by the trough,神探➖ Jip,东野👻' said he. 'All you've got to do is to keep still. You can go to sleep if you like. But don't move or fidget for ten minutes. Think you can do that?'

"But how do you know all this,系列👄" asked the Doctor,伽利略🔑 "if nobody has ever been there to see if it's true or not?"
"And not a bite to eat shall you ever have till I do,伽利略🚌" the Emir yelled.
Finding a rope ladder hanging on the side of the man-o'-war,东野🌙 John Dolittle climbed up it,东野🍌 with Zuzana,推荐💺 and went aboard to see the Captain.
As soon as the Doctor had lit his pipe and got it well going he began:
"Let us not listen to this forward young man. It is far better that we abide the white man's promise and see what comes. He is a man of deeds,伽利略😐 not words. Did he not put the Amazons to flight with a magic mouse that lives in his pocket? Let us side with the white man and the venerable Nyam-Nyam,推荐🔧 who has ruled us with kindness for so long. Obombo would but lead us into war,伽利略🐅 and bring us to greater poverty still."
One day the Doctor was opening the mail addressed to him,推荐🚀 when he came upon a package about the size and shape of a large egg. He undid the outer wrapper,神探🌙 which was made of seaweed. Inside he found a letter and a pair of oyster shells tied together like a box.
"Balls of pink putty would suit them just as well,系列🔐" snorted Dab-Dab.
"Oh,神探✈ yes,神探💯" said the gull,推荐📮 "it wastes a little time. But,神探🏦 you know,系列😌 we very seldom let ourselves get caught by a storm."
Then going outside,系列🈶 he called for Quip the Carrier.
"'Come over here by the trough'"
CHAPTER IV
"Yes,推荐💒" said the Doctor. "I imagine there are lots of different kinds of birds and beasts in these parts that can be found nowhere else in the world."
Then the white merchant explained to him the whole idea of penny postage and government mails. And he told him that in England all you had to do when you wanted to send a letter to any part of the world was to put a stamp on the envelope with the queen's head on it and place it in a letter-box on the street corner,伽利略🐣 and it would be carried to the place to which you addressed it.
